You don’t need anymore to create additional object to control your rigs, everything is triggered by predefined mesh zones and your mouse movements.

So the advantage here, is that it doesn’t slowdown your scene by adding more elements, and most of all, you can control your rig directly on the mesh, without any visual interference, painful Controller selection or separate UI.

So everything becomes very obvious and intuitive.

It seems very obvious that it will work well on facial rigs, but you can really control a lot of different types of rigs.

It gives you all the freedom that even the best rig can’t.
You can sculpt your poses in animation at a specific time,
and your corrective poses are blended on top of your mesh deformations.
It can be applied on top of any mesh deformations like a skin modifier, a point cache, a cloth simulation, an alembic cache…etc

That’s a really cool tool to add cartoony deformations, like smear frames, squash&stretch, change the silhouette, correct a cloth simulation…etc

 

It works pretty well with Combine to attach your animated meshes together before the pose sculpt process.

OverMorpher Mesh Space is the release of what I showed a few years ago:

That’s a new 3dsmax plugin.

It works like a morpher, but on top of an animated mesh. It can be placed over a skin modifier, or anything like a point cache or an alembic…etc

Each morph target follows the deformation of a reference vertex, so whatever the animation does before the modifier, the morph will always follow properly.

That’s really handy to add and animate deformations that your rig can’t do, or add different morphologies to copies of the same animated mesh.

OverMorpher Pose Space
OverMorpher Pose Space

OverMorpher PoseSpace is a 3Dsmax plugin dedicated to Pose Space Deformation.

 

It is pretty similar to the SkinMorph, Corrective poses driven by your Rig.

Except the poses interpolation is more reliable. The SkinMorph modifier drives the poses depending on the angle between 2 bones.

And because of the nature of rotations in 3d softwares and rotation orders, in some cases, the interpolation doesn’t work as expected.

Mainly on bones which have more than 1 free angle.

 

This plugin is based on what is called a Radial Basis Function, and in this case it is a bit  simplified.

So it doesn’t use angles between poses, but distance between two points, which solves the angle problem, and open new possibilities.

PhysX Painter is made to very quickly populate your scenes with your assets in a very natural way.

It allows you to create them using a brush,
and automatically place them with Rigid bodies simulation.

Atom is a new geometry plugin for 3dsmax.

It creates similar effects as you can see in After Effect’s Plexus.

Atom uses Particle Flow to generate lines,

points and faces between the particles.

So all you do with Pflow can be used by Atom,

any simulation, MassFX particles…etc

The result is refreshed when the particles are updated

so that’s a non destructive workflow.

You have control over the number of lines, the search distance…etc

All the parameters are animatable.

You can use a multimaterial to shade it.

That’s a geometry so you can also deform it, smooth it…etc.

You can bake complex Atom objects using Alembic

(prefer the free Exocortex Crate plugin) or Xmesh.

This tool is inspired from tools you can find in 2D animation softwares,

like the Onion Layers in Flash or the Echo effect in After Effects.

It’s a new max object where you can pick different sources and offset their time animation, but also divide this time offset by the number of source copies you want.

– creating nice animated duplication effects, for motion graphics or simply to check your animation without using trajectories.

– copy N times the source object with an animated time delay. 

– you can now offset the transforms of these time copies.

– rotate the copies around an animatable pivot.

– use a spline to place them, slide along that spline.

To create Snow exactly where you want, but it could be used for many different things.

Use the BlobMesh or the Frost option

if you have a Thinkbox Frost Licence.

The tool is more interesting and powerfull with Frost, but it still works very well with the BlobMesh option.

Directly paint geometry on selected objects.

Press Ctrl to add geometry to itself.

Press Alt to delete geometry.

Press Shift to draw branches.

You can create multiple Blobs with different meshing options, and pick them when you want to continue to work on it, you can bake it in poly when finished.

This tool is derivated from EchOoo and Multimesher,

I have it since I released these two tools and use it a lot in production, so I think it’s gonna be useful for you.

It’s very helpful to combine multiple animated meshes into one,

without loosing their animations and deformations.

Features :

  • pick multiple source objects, it’ll combine them in a new mesh
  • you can replace the sources by a replacer object, the replacer will get the transforms of the sources.
  • you have 6 Retime functions
    • Copy : takes the exact source (or replacer) animation
    • Delay : you can Delay the animation
    • Playback Graph : like in the point cache you can animate a time value to Retime the Sources Animation, slowdown or speed up…etc
    • Position XYZ : Delay animation by axis position.
    • Point Distance : Delay animation by a point distance
    • Spline Distance : Delay animation by Spline proximity
  • A random value which works on top of it.
  • Cache tools to easily point cache the result.

A little scripted modifier experimentation between two bigger projects.

It can be applied on geometries and splines.

It uses a spline object to attract, repulse or rotate vertices.

You can easily create nice wave deformations, splashes, vortex, and a lot of different organic deformations.

Since it’s a scripted modifier, it’s a bit performance limited, but it works perfectly on low res meshes.

This is a little free tool to help you import and setup the shaders created with Substance Painter, inside 3dsmax and render them properly with Vray.

Step1-Max preparation.

Note: This tool works with the default Vray workflow (with change on gamma).

Setup your scene as usual to export objects from 3dsMax to Substance Painter.

Keep in mind to give correct name without forbidden characters to your shader it’s important.

Step2- Substance Painter

Import your model, bake and create all your shaders as usual (you can follow the great tutorial from Darren Wallace if you need help to setup scene).

Step3- Substance Painter export.

Select the Vray exporter in the config and choose format of your export and the folder where you want to export all your maps.

Step4- 3dsMax import.

Launch SubstanceToVRAY tool (Scripting>run script>SubstanceToVRAY.mse) and select the folder where you create your maps. The script will find all the maps you create and recognize shaders.

If you click on CREATE Shaders, you will find on your material editors the shaders created (with correct gamma correction for the maps) ready to render. You can directly assign new shaders by clicking on “Update Scene Object”.

A quick Pflow Script to create random growing labyrinth effect.

 

Here is how to setup it quickly :

in the script operator, open or copy paste the downloadable script.

  • To modify the effect, edit the script and change the “EACH” value.

This value is by default a random value. You can change it’s random range or set it to a fixed value.

This is basically each frame the particle changes direction, so if you set it to 10, the particles will change direction each 10 frames.

if you keep it random, the changes will be random, and each particle with a different changing frame.

  • You also can change the “SPEED” value.
  • Of course because it’s a Pflow script you can add more Pflow operators to it, like a collision, to keep it inside a volume…etc

If you’re tired of 3dsmax Auto-saving and freezing when you are working,

this script is for you.

It’s based on an idea of Vincent Lacour.

 

installation :

  • Put the file in the Scripts/startup folder of your 3dsmax installation.
  • Restart 3dsmax

 

How it works :

  • When you start 3dsmax you’ll notice a new tool at the bottom left of your UI.
  • If you right clic on the biggest button, you’ll see a few options :

      – off to turn it off,

      – restart to restart the countdown

      – and a few timing options

  • If you choose a time interval the button starts to count the time.
  • It doesn’t save automatically your file. When the chosen time interval is reached, the button starts to blink in red, so you know you should save.
  • To save your file, just clic on the big button to replace the file, use the + to increment or “As” to save as.
  • Each time you save with these buttons the countdown is restarted.

 

Updates :

03/08/2016 : now resetting a scene also reset the counter.
